Shanghai, 1937. Zu Beginn des Sino-japanischen Krieges kehrt Chen Zhen (Jet Li), ein junger chinesischer Student, aus Tokio, wo der Rassismus unerträglich geworden war, zurück zu seiner Martial Arts-Schule.
